Chanko and one-dish joint owned by Kirishima (currently Michinoku Oyakata,) one-time popular ex-sumo wrestler who peaked at the Ozeki rank. You can find it immediately upon leaving Ryogoku Station. Individual rooms are on all four floors of the building. The abundant lunch menu is available for those who prefer to eat more casually. Look out for the photograph of Kirishima-zeki at the entrance.

Tomoe-nada is the name of a well-feared sumo wrestler Tomoe-nada a.k.a. the 'Bullet,' active in the early Showa era (mid 1920s). This chanko joint is particularly associated with history as it stands on the site of the Tomo-zuna stable where Tomoe-nada belonged. Photographs and banners of the Tomo-zuna wrestlers on each table help the visitor to savor the sumo atmosphere. A new branch recently opened on the other side of the road.

When you go to Ryogoku you must try the chanko. 'Ryogoku Chanko Yokozuna' is a popular hot pot comprised of eight vegetables, chicken mince, and five seafoods such as salmon, shrimps and oysters. There is plenty to fill your stomach and you won't go home unsatisfied! For lunch, the 'Kimchi Chanko' is a delight at mere 750 yen.
